Economies of Scale Can Achieve Better Price Competitiveness for High-Quality Thai Fabric

Economies of scale can achieve better price competitiveness for high-quality Thai fabric in international market, Thailand Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said during recent meeting of the Thai Cabinet.

According to the theory of economies of scale, the efficiency of production increases along with an increase in the number of goods being produced.

Betting on the smart look of Thai fabric and their ability to replace conventional suits, Ms. Shinawatra is persuading everyone in the country to use Thai fabrics, and thereby flaunt the Thai culture.

Just before the Cabinet meeting, officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology laid some designs of Thai fabrics and Thai folk fabrics before Ms. Shinawatra and other Ministers to obtain their nod for further processing it with the help of nanotechnology.

The prototype clothing designs put forward by the Ministry of Science and Technology are made by nano-technology and are bacteria-resistant, fire-resistant and water resistant.

Since the garments are made from bacteria-resistant fabrics, they would not smell easily and would be best suited for wearing during the Songkran festival.

Ms. Shinawatra said she was not forcing civil servants to wear clothes made from traditional Thai fabrics. However, she added that she would continue to promote both Thai fabrics and garments from them.

Minister of Culture Mr. Sonthaya Khunpleum said his Ministry would emphasize the use of Thai fabrics in each community. He cited local cotton fabrics as an example, saying it was comfortable to wear and suited the weather in Thailand.
