German luxury-car maker BMW has unveiled the new ActiveHybrid 3 sedan in the US.
The new ActiveHybrid 3 is powered by a blend of TwinPower Turbo 3.0 litre inline 6-cylinder engine mated to an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, along with a lithium-ion high-voltage battery powered electric motor.
According to the carmaker, the blend will collectively generate an output of 335hp and 332lb-ft of torque.
The new hybrid can rev up from 0-100km/h in 5.3 seconds and offers a top speed of 250km/h, while consuming 5.9 litres of fuel per 100 km, while with a full electric drive it offers a range of about 4km operating at an average speed of 35 km/h.
Features of 2013 ActiveHybrid 3 include auto start-stop function and offer two operating modes, which include ECO PRO mode and Coasting mode.
ECO PRO mode makes frequent use of all-electric mode and offers optimal energy efficiency, while the coasting mode increases the efficiency by switching off the internal combustion engine when the vehicle is idle and is expected to reduce emissions.
BMW said that the 2013 ActiveHybrid 3 will be on sale in US in this fall at a price of $50,195.
