Demand for Cement in Sabah Has Gone up by Around 10 Per Cent in The Past Few Months

Demand for cement in Sabah has gone up by around 10 per cent in the past few months, according to Cement Industries (Sabah) Sdn Bhd executive director Bahrul Razha Hj Chuprat. He said this was normal as the upcoming election would see more projects being carried out. Nonetheless, he assured that cement was in sufficient supply but pointed out that sometimes the shortage could be due to the transporters. Bahrul said sometimes lorry drivers did not want to deliver to the outskirts but only to nearby locations. We deliver 4, 000 tons per day in the west coast and it s more than enough for consumption; It s equivalent to 20, 000 bags per day Bahrul said. On the price of cement, Bahrul said Sabah had not increased the price of cement for the past three years since 2009. Sabah had never increased (the price of cement). In 2008, we reduced the price because we opened the east coast terminal; We think the cost of producing (cement) isn t that much. He said CIS was producing 24 hours a day, while delivery could be increased to 24 hours a day if needed. Bahrul was promoted as executive director of CIS in February this year. Upon taking the reign, Bahrul organized meetings and dinners with distributors, transporters and hardware associations in order to learn of their grievances and to encourage distributors to voice out issues they faced directly to him. A dinner was organized between CIS and members of the Kota Kinabalu Hardware, Machinery and Building Materials Traders Associations Sabah here on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Chai Jee Choon, chairman of Kota Kinabalu Hardware, Machinery and Building Materials Traders Associations Sabah, thanked CIS for opening up more communication channels for the association. He said the cement shortage recently had now been resolved. Also present was deputy chairman of Kota Kinabalu Hardware, Machinery and Building Materials Traders Associations Sabah, Su Lick Ing.
