A Decline in Spot Market Freight Volumes in Canada

November saw a decline in spot market freight volumes in Canada, according to the latest data from TransCore Link Logistics.

Month-over-month volumes fell 9% compared to October, and were off 2% compared to November 2012, TransCore reported.

November’s volumes were slightly higher than the average for the last five years, but were the second lowest totals of the year, behind only February.

Cross-border postings accounted for 67% of total load volumes. Cross-border loads originating in Canada were down 2% year-over-year. Similarly, cross-border loads originating in the US were down 6% compared to November 2012.

Intra-Canada load volumes, representing 27% of the total volumes for the month, were flat compared to last year. TransCore also noted capacity was showing signs of easing. Equipment postings for November declined 10% from last month’s levels and were down 2% year-over-year.
