The Grommet, an online shopping site and product launch platform for innovative and undiscovered products, is working with fashion designer to feature Scents and Feel, Tunisian Fouta towels. The Grommet seeks out innovative, problem solving products and these Tunisian towels really raise the bar in terms of quality.
Plush terry cloth towels are so ubiquitous that many have come to equate fluffiness with quality -- but fluff factor isn’t the real measure of luxury. In the Mediterranean region, fouta refers to multipurpose linens that come in various shapes and sizes to form towels, tablecloths, cover-ups and more.
Jenny Haik, a longtime fashion designer, lived in Tunisia as a child and always wanted to revisit the rich traditions of the region, including the hammam, or steam room, for cleansing and relaxation. Through the company she founded, Scents & Feel, she’s reinterpreting Tunisia’s ancestral body-care practices for a modern audience.
Jenny’s fouta towels are ideal for creating a spa-like experience. They’re hand-woven on looms using natural cotton to create a unique dimensional weave that feels great against skin. They’re absorptive, quick drying, and incredibly versatile.
One can use a fouta as a bath or beach towel, shawl, picnic blanket, bed cover or tablecloth. They’re generously sized, but because fouta towels are thinner than conventional terry cloth, they’re lightweight, easy to pack, and don’t feel bulky if worn as a cover-up.
Jenny’s original designs interpret classic patterns and motifs in fresh ways, which makes her foutas equally at home in modern and traditional environments.
About The Grommet
The Grommet is a highly curated online marketplace and launch platform for products of great utility, style or invention that haven’t hit the big-time yet. The Grommet seeks out these unique products, carefully tests them, and produces a video review of each one telling the story behind its creation.
The Grommet is rooted in the philosophy of Citizen Commerce whereby regular people form the commerce experience by suggesting products that reflect their values and interests. Citizen Commerce turns the typical top down retailer approach sideways, encourages global product innovation from small producers, and satisfies the consumer’s need to know the stories behind and origins of favorite products. The company was also just named one of the hottest sites of 2013 by Internet Retailer.
