TFP Exhibiting New Developments at JEC World

Technical Fibre Products (TFP) will be exhibiting several innovative new nonwoven developments, designed to increase composite functionality, on stand M38 in hall 5 at the JEC World exhibition in March.

These new developments include a novel Tecnofire fire protection material, the first of its kind which can be activated on demand, without heat. The intumescent mat has been designed for use in a remotely activated fire protection system and, due to the presence of the conductive fibres, has the added benefit of acting as an EMI shield.

Also on display will be TFP's new, extended range of high performance veils made from thermoplastic fibres; including polyphenylene sulphide (PPS), polyether imide (PEI), Polyether ether ketone (PEEK), polyamide and polyimide. These very lightweight materials are designed for use in carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP) as enhancing interleaves. It has been demonstrated that they can significantly improve mode-I and mode-II fracture toughness, by up to 160% and 430% respectively, whilst adding minimum weight to the final composite part.

A further new development for TFP is the company's certification to the AS 9100 (BS EN 9100) global aerospace quality standard. TFP has been supplying into the aerospace and defence industries for over 25 years, establishing a global reputation as a specialist in developing nonwovens for these highly technical and challenging applications. Achieving the AS9100 certification validates this, demonstrating that TFP has the knowledge and experience necessary to satisfy the demanding requirements, processes and regulatory controls stipulated by the aerospace industry.

In addition to these new developments, visitors to JEC World can find out more about TFP's novel multifunctional nonwoven materials and how they deliver a broad range of solutions for composites. These include delivering a high quality surface finish, imparting EMI shielding, conductivity and abrasion resistance as well as providing an effective adhesive carrier, resin flow medium or galvanic corrosion barrier.

These materials are just an indication of TFP's capability; the development and manufacture of custom nonwovens to meet specific performance, aesthetic or processing requirements is a key part of TFP's approach. It is recognised that in a lot of cases a standard material will not suffice and TFP has extensive experience and product development facilities to enable both effective material design and scale up from concept to larger scale production.

To see the full range of advanced nonwoven materials on offer, find out more about TFP's exciting new materials, or to discuss possible solutions to your technical challenge visit the TFP stand at JEC World; stand M38 in hall 5A, from 8-10 March.
