NOKIA has signalled it will lift the lid on future additions to its Microsoft Windows-based smartphone range in mid-May.
The Finnish phonemaker will hold a May 14 press conference in London and issued invitations to journalists this week.
The invitation teases up the possibility of some major announcements around Nokia's Lumia Windows phone range with the words "See What's Next" and "The Nokia Lumia story continues".
Nokia was caught napping by the touch screen smartphone revolution brought on by Apple iPhone and Google Android devices. Nokia bet its future on a smartphone recovery strategy centred around the Microsoft Windows Phone operating system which hit its stride late last year with the launch of the flagship Nokia Lumia 920 Windows phone and the cheaper Nokia 820, both based on the new Windows Phone 8 system
Since then Nokia has fleshed out the Lumia series with more low-end and mid-range models.
Nokia owns the lion's share of the small but growing Windows phone market. According to market watcher Kantar Worldpanel, Windows made up 4.1 per cent of smartphone sales in the three-month period ending February 2013, up from 2.7 per cent for the previous corresponding quarter.
The smartphone market moves at a cracking pace however, and Nokia will be aiming to up the technological ante on its smartphone line next month.
