According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in the first half of the current year Turkey's iron and steel imports stood at $9.2 billion, decreasing by 10.1 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2012, while its imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $1.3 billion, up by 22.1 percent year on year.
In June this year, Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.5 billion, decreasing by 11.1 percent year on year and stable compared to May this year. Iron and steel ranked fourth among the most imported products of the country in the given month. Meanwhile, in June the country's imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 17th among the products with the highest import value, were up 18 percent compared to June 2012 and fell by 6.3 percent month on month, amounting to $222 million.
