J&K Signed a Tripartite Memorandum of MoU for Implementation of RRR Scheme

The government of the north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) for implementation of ‘Revival, Reform and Reconstructing’ (RRR) scheme in the handloom sector.

The agreement was signed by concerned state and Central Government officers in presence of J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Minister of Textiles K Sambasiva Rao in Srinagar last week.

Both the Chief Minister and the Union Minister expressed hope that the scheme would prove highly successful and beneficial in the state. The RRR scheme is aimed at providing package to the weavers in handloom sector and helping ameliorate their lot, in addition to giving a new dimension to the development of handloom sector.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Abdullah stressed on the need for focusing on holistic and comprehensive development of handicrafts and handlooms to attract youngsters and budding entrepreneurs to venture in these fields in the state.

“We have to make the handloom and handicraft sectors economically as sound as would attract the youth to get associated in the activities in these sectors”, he said and mentioned the tremendous potential and international reputation of handicrafts and handloom items of Jammu and Kashmir.
