The Expansion of Recall of Sunland's Peanut Butter Products Has Been Announced

US-based Chattanooga, the maker of MoonPie snacks, has announced the expansion of the recall of its MoonPie Crunch Peanut Butter product over Salmonella contamination concerns.

The products subject for the recall include products with non-expired code dates: 10/29/12, 12/10/12, 01/07/13, and 01/29/13. Consumers who have purchased the product with these mentioned dates are requested to either dispose or return it to the retailer for a full refund.

The expanded recall has been issued after Chattanooga was notified that its peanut butter supplier Sunland has expanded the range of dates involved in their recall due to Salmonella contamination.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections.
