According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in September this year Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 48,190 mt, decreasing by 37.71 percent month on month and down 57.72 percent year on year. The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month was $21.28 million, down 33.46 percent month on month and decreasing by 57.97 percent compared to September 2012. According to the data for September this year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports was $441.52/mt, falling from the average of $444.11/mt recorded in the same month of the previous year.
In the first nine months of the year, Turkey's pig iron imports totaled 643,584 mt, decreasing by 38.73 percent, with a value of $273.95 million, down 44.89 percent, both year on year.
Turkey imported 396,791 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine in January-September this year, down 41.19 percent year on year. However, Ukraine remained Turkey's largest pig iron source in the first nine months, followed by Russia which supplied 187,738 mt, down 41.72 percent year on year. Meanwhile, Ukraine supplied 71.69 percent of Turkey's overall pig iron imports in September, with a total of 34,547 mt.
