CCA Invests $35m to Upgrade Its Manufacturing Facility in New Zealand

Coca-Cola Amatil New Zealand (CCANZ), the bottler and distributor of soft drinks has invested $35m to upgrade its manufacturing facility at Auckland and installed two beverage bottle production lines using blow-fill technology and a new aluminium can line.

According to CCANZ, the technology is being installed across CCA's production facilities in New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Fiji from 2010-2015 and allows the company to design and self-manufacture its own polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic beverage bottles and deliver a reduction in the carbon footprint of every bottle of about 20%.

Coca-Cola Amatil managing director George Adams said innovation like bottle self-manufacture heralds a step change in sustainable packaging, delivering changes which are good for the company and its customers.

"Blow-fill technology will provide a quantum lift in the company's manufacturing capability in New Zealand," Adams added.

About 28,000 bottles per hour will be produced by the new blow-fill line .

The facility upgrade follows the investment of a $15m investment in earlier 2012 in the company's Christchurch plant.
