Frieslandcampina, Sudpack and Octal Developed a New Packaging Product for Cheese

Netherlands-based dairy firm FrieslandCampina, German food packaging manufacturer Südpack and Oman-based PET resin and sheet producer Octal have developed a new packaging product for cheese.

Made with direct-to-sheet PET (DPET), the new recyclable cheese packaging is said to have the lowest carbon footprint compared to any other PET.

With the use of this new PET product, the amount of packaging can be potentially reduced in landfills.

Sudpack was the provider of materials that met the specifications of form/fill/seal technology for the production of new cheese packaging. Octal had also provided the packaging material solution to develop the new product.

According to Octal, DPET sheet features sustainability, consistency, easy forming, high machine output, and good aesthetics.

The technology avoids the need of five stages of the conventional sheet production process including pelletizer, SSP, compactor, dryer and extruder.
