The Nexus 5’s days are numbered with Google confirming production has ceased on the LG-made smartphone.
Despite the Nexus 5 being quietly killed off, this past week has seen the replacement Nexus 6 become readily available in the UK.
Originally launched late last year, the Nexus 5 was introduced as an Android-based iPhone 5S rival. The handset paired a premium specs-sheet – including a 5-inch, 1080p Full HD display – with an affordable, £299 price tag.
An official Google spokesperson reportedly confirmed that Nexus 5 production had stopped in a discussion with TechRadar.
They added: “Once they are gone, they’re gone, so we’d suggest people get them while they can.”
At the time of writing only the black Nexus 5 is listed through the UK Google Play Store with the former white and red options missing.
Despite the handset being offered in both 16GB and 32GB storage capacities, neither is currently available.
Offering a thin glimmer of hope that further stocks could still be introduced to the UK market, the handset’s listing pages read: “We are out of stock. Please check back soon.”
Casting doubts over the handset’s future availability, the device appears to have disappeared from the stock listings of all major UK networks and retailers.
The Nexus 5 features an 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera alongside a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor.
The handset acted as the launch device to Android 4.4 KitKat but was recently handed and Android 5.0 Lollipop update.
