BD Medical Wants to Introduced Bd Ultrasafe Plus Passive Needle Guard in US

BD Medical, a division of Becton, Dickinson and Company, has introduced BD UltraSafe PLUS passive needle guard in the US.

The FDA-cleared anti-needlestick safety device is developed by an anti-needlestick device company Safety Syringes, which was acquired by BD in December 2012 and is designed for use in conjunction with 1.0 mL long BD Hypak or BD Neopak Glass prefilled syringes with staked needles.

The device features a plunger rod to support injection of viscous drugs, a larger drug inspection window to improve drug visibility, an extended built-in finger flanges as well as an enhanced plunger head to support patients with diminished manual dexterity.

The company has studied patients with reduced dexterity, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis during its clinical focus group trial.

Subjects in the study reported that the device provided ease of use with 100% of injections executed successfully, claims the company.

BD Medical Pharmaceutical Systems president Claude Dartiguelongue said the new device complements the company's existing safety portfolio.

"We now have an ergonomic safety device solution for those customers seeking to offer patients the ability to manually control their injection," Dartiguelongue added.
