Steel Production of US Drops After Weeks of Increases

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production fell 1.2 percent in the week ending April 20, reversing the 1.2 percent increase the previous week.

Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,858,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 1.2 percent decrease from the 1,880,000 nt produced in the previous week and a 7.7 percent drop from the 2,014,000 nt produced during the same week a year ago.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 77.6 percent in the week ending April 20, compared to 78.6 percent in the previous week and 80.9 percent in the same week last year.
