Radiant Has Reported Consolidated Revenues Totaled NT$5.01 Billion in August 2011

LCD backlight module (BLU) maker Radiant has reported consolidated revenues totaled NT$5.01 billion in August 2011, with an on-month decrease of 2.88%. Industry sources noted that Radiant's sales were affected by reduced BLU supply to LG Display (LGD) for iPad 2 panels. LGD's 9.7-inch panels for iPad 2 reportedly experienced quality issues earlier in the year, causing Apple to lower its purchase from the Korea maker. The industry sources said Apple's move affected sales of Radiant, the BLU supplier of LGD's iPad 2 panels. Radiant's consolidated revenues decreased 10.23% on month in July to NT$5.15 billion. Market observers forecast Radiant's sales to pick up in Septmber after reports indicating that LGD has overcome quality issues for the iPad 2 panels. Radiant's total revenues in third-quarter 2011 are expected to reach NT$15.5 billion, with an on-quarter decline of 5-10%, they said. But its revenues will rise in the fourth quarter due to shipments for iPad 3, the sources added. Radiant's August shipments of BLUs to notebooks totaled 7.76 million units, representing an on-month decline of 5.2%. Shipments to netbooks totaled 3.63 million units, sliding 14% on-month. But shipments to large-display LED-backlit notebooks reached 4.12 million units, rising 4.3% on-month. Its shipments to LCD monitors totaled 2.16 million units, down 9.2% on-month. Shipments to LCD TVs totaled 650, 000 units, sliding 12% on-month. Radiant's BLU shipments to other applications totaled 10.6 million units in August 2011, with an on-month decline of 6.8%.
