The French character doll, manufactured circa 1916 by Albert Marque was presented at a specialty auction house for antique childhood items in the US.

A new world record has been set by an antique doll, after it fetched a whopping $300,000 at auction.

The French character doll, manufactured circa 1916 by Albert Marque, was presented at a specialty auction house for antique childhood items.

The doll was the highlight of a collection comprised of nearly 1,000 pieces from the Puppenmuseum Stein am Rhein, a doll museum in Switzerland.

The antique doll is numbered as 27 of only 100 ever produced and it is believed to have been first presented in 1916 at an exlcusive exhibition at the fashion boutique of Parisian art patron, Margaine Lacroix, reports Action Figure Insider.

The world record breaking amount was placed by an unknown bidder at Theriault's auction house in Naples.

Founded in 1970, Theriault's specialises exclusively in the appraisal and auction of antique dolls and childhood ephemera.
