FCCI Urges The Government to Resolve The Energy Crisis

The Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) has urged the Government to resolve the energy crisis and ensure continuous power supply to the textile industries of Faisalabad.

Lack of management in the power sector has caused power outage for up to 20 hours in Faisalabad and it may halt industrial production of the city, FCCI president Mian Zahid Aslam said in a statement.

The textile sector of Faisalabad is a major contributor to Pakistan’s economy, but lack of power supply affects the running of advanced machines that are recently set up by various textile mills, Mr. Aslam said.

The current energy crisis has hampered the optimum utilization of the equipments, leading to a decline in GDP growth of Pakistan by about 3 percent per annum, he added.

Delay in production of Faisalabad-based textile firms has resulted in further delay in shipment and transportation of the finished goods. The situation is getting worse in summer due to the increase in demand for garments and apparel in the domestic market.

He added the working hours in Faisalabad have already reduced because of the electricity shutdown and has increased unemployment in the industries, including the textile sector.   In view of the current scenario, Mr. Aslam appealed to the Government to find a solution to the power crisis to provide non-stop electricity to the textile industries of Faisalabad.
