The finalists for the 2014 European Car of the Year (COTY) award have been announced, with seven cars still in contention for the title.
European manufacturers dominate the list of finalists, with only two non-European carmakers still in the running for the award, while two electric cars have also made it to the final round of judging.
Leading the EV charge are the BMW i3 and Tesla Model S, which will compete against the Citroen C4 Picasso, Mazda 3, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Peugeot 308 and Skoda Octavia.
From this point, judging for the 2014 European Car of the Year award will consist of a series of test drives, to be undertaken by a panel of representatives from 23 countries, all looking for the “most outstanding” car to have gone on sale in the past year.
An initial list of 32 nominees for the award was announced last September. In that list, Toyota had the greatest representation, with three models up for contention, however none of its entrants made the final round.
The winner will be announced at the Geneva motor show in March next year.
