Backlight orders have eased this month, but will rebound in April, a UDN report cited Epistar Chairman B.J. Lee saying at Taiwan International Lighting Show (TILS) 2015.
Despite a slowdown in backlight orders this year, Lee projected orders will rebound in April, while the lighting market will keep up surging growths. The LED market's second largest application sector will continue to maintain its growth momentum, but price competitions will pressure manufacturers profitability, he said during an interview with reporters at the TILS 2015, which will run from March 25 to 28 at TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall, Taipei, Taiwan.
Due to the impact from Korean TV manufacturers supply chain, backlight market demands have been delayed for a month. Usually, Korean vendors will start placing orders in March, but it is estimated orders will not rebound till April.
LED chips still face price pressures this year, but sliding market prices will in turn stimulate sales demand, and keep backlight market value at the same levels as last year, explained Lee. As large sized 4K2K TV market penetration rates increases, backlight market value remains high. Looking into the lighting market sector, the industry growth is expected to double. Global LED lighting sales volume increased from 9% to 12% this year, and might even reach a max growth rate of 20% to 25%. LED lighting sales volume has escalated compared to 2014.
