US Government Reduced The 2012 Tariff Rates on China-Made Modules to an Average of 19.50%

Taiwan-based PV conductive paste maker Giga Solar Materials is expected to see orders from China grow, as a result of the US decision to reduce antitrust tariffs it set in 2012 for China-made PV modules, according to industry observers.

The US government has reduced the 2012 tariff rates on China-made modules to an average of 19.50%, much lower than the original 30%.

China-based module makers originally adopted imported solar cells to evade the US punitive tariffs, but now that the US has lowered the rates, the makers may use their internally or locally produced cells to minimize production costs, the observers in Taiwan said.

Giga Solar has a considerably high market share in China, with 65% of its consolidated revenues coming from the market. The increase in demand for China-made solar cells from China module makers is expected to boost orders for Giga Solar, the observers indicated.

Giga Solar has reported consolidated revenues of NT$1.059 billion (US$33.3 million) for December, hitting a record for the fourth consecutive month with growth of 5.58% sequentially and 81.76% on year. Consolidated revenues for 2014 reached NT$9.734 billion, hiking 100.78% on year.
