The Indian Institute Organized a Seminar on "Challenges Facing Indian Steel Industry"

Business Line reported that the Indian Institute of Materials Management’s Durgapur chapter organized a seminar on “Challenges facing Indian steel industry - A supply chain perspective”, on December 23.

Mr PK Singh CEO of SAIL DSP said, “An efficient supply-chain management is paying the most crucial role in improving the competitiveness of the steel industry. It ensures availability of right quality inputs at optimum cost at right time to facilitate operations and minimizes holding cost of inbound inventory in the steel plants,” according to a release.

Mr Malay Mukherjee former Director, Group Management Board, Arcelor Mittal and former Global CEO of Essar Steel Ltd said, “India is emerging as a leading steel making nation in the world. In this context, efficient supply chain management in steel plant operations will add to the competitiveness and future sustainability of the Indian steel sector.”

Several papers on issues including ‘Ensuring raw material availability’ and ‘Challenges in shipping, transportation & logistics’ were presented at the seminar.
