The Centre has asked the Nagpur district administration to speed up the process of taking over 50 acres of land of the now defunct Nagpur Cooperative Spinning Mills, Union Textiles Minister K Sambasiva Rao told reporters during his visit to the city.

The Minister said the Central Government would provide subsidy to the tune of 40 percent on investment up to Rs. 1 billion, for setting up the park.

Moreover, the Textiles Ministry was willing to implement housing schemes for handloom workers, in addition to offering permanent space for their units at subsidized rates if the state government provided the land, Mr. Rao said.

For powerloom units, he said each unit will get Rs. 30,000 for its upgradation, which would be equally shared by the Central and state governments.

Earlier, participating in the ‘Interaction of the Stakeholders for Development of Textile Cluster in Nagpur’, the Minister said the Government is making efforts to see that the weavers get good price for their products.
