In the afternoon of May 9, Ningbo Steel thin strip casting demonstration plant site is filled with festive atmosphere. The placing of more than 80 tons of strip casting mill arch marks that Ningbo Steel strip casting demonstration plant project has already entered equipment installation stage and has laid a solid foundation for completion and putting into operation by end of the year. This marks Baosteel's gratifying progress in accelerating industrialization pace on the basis of thin strip casting key technology. It is achieved by increasing original technology innovation and 10 years of hard work.
Ningbo Steel chairman and Party secretary Cui Jian, China Iron and Steel Association development and technology environmental protection department deputy director Huang Dao, Mitsubishi-Hitachi Metals Machinery Co., Ltd. President Yasukuni Yamasaki and 20 MCC, NETC, Baosteel Central Research Institute, Baosteel Engineering representatives, amounting to more than 100 people, attend Ningbo Steel strip casting mill arch hoisting ceremony.
Since 2001, Baosteel has done more than 10 years of research and development in strip casting technology and has achieved fruitful results in strip casting process, product, equipment, control technology. It completes China's first thin strip continuous casting and rolling pilot production line, and puts it into trial production in February 2009. It achieves 304 stainless steel and low-grade carbon steel whole furnace casting and coiling, forms a complete set of Baosteel original technique and process results with independent intellectual property.
Ningbo Steel thin strip continuous casting demonstration plant project is to create a new thin strip casting industrialization demonstration production line with 500,000 ton production scale in Ningbo Steel's steel smelting shop. Through continuous efforts, the project eventually achieves thin strip casting technology stability and reliability, produces qualified products. It gets market mass application verification, gradually develops thin strip casting product user circle and lay basisfor good transition for the next step commercialization.
Cui Jian points out in his speech that Ningbo Steel strip casting demonstration plant project is Baosteel Group's major technological innovation project as well as the first domestic strip casting industrialization project. He hopes that the participating parties will increase collaborative efforts, pursues excellence and be careful in on-site safety and equipment installation and commissioning, that they will make efforts to ensure construction safety management control and equipment installation quality and lay a solid foundation for Ningbo Steel's thin strip casting demonstration plant project complete construction and putting into operation.
