UK-based National Flexible has supplied supplying a compostable printed laminate for a range of ethically sourced Fair Trade chocolate bars.
The laminate is said to address the environmental credentials that are often neglected by packaging.
With the help of the new laminate the manufacturer could meet its customers' needs as well as its own sustainability goals.
According to the company, the packaging, which has better barrier properties, is certified to meet the European EN13432, American ASTM D6400 and Australian AS4736 standards for compostable packaging.
Claimed to be suitable for emerging 'waste to energy' techniques such as anaerobic digestion, the film begins life as a natural product wood, sourced from managed plantations, and breaks down at the end of its lifecycle in a home compost bin.
