US carmaker General Motors is planning to invest $420m in its Mexican facilities to build the Chevrolet Trax, new pick-up trucks and a new cto be employed in its passenger cars.
The investment will go towards facilities in the states of Guanajuato and San Luis Potosi and out the total investment, about $120m will be towards producing the new Chevrolet Trax compact vehicle at its San Luis Potosi facility.
According to GM, the new compact will be unveiled at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in September 2012 prior to its Mexican debut in the fourth quarter of this year.
Additional $100m will be invested at the San Luis Potosi facility for a new transmission plant.
GM will invest $200m for the production of new pick-up trucks at its Silao plant in Guanajuato state, which would begin production in 2013.
The Trax will be sold in 140 countries, but not in the US and would be manufactured on the same platform as the Aveo and Sonic sedan.
