U.S. rail intermodal traffic rose 0.6% in the week ended Feb. 8 compared with the same week last year, the Association of American Railroads reported.
Railroads moved 246,114 intermodal trailers and containers that week, AAR said Feb. 13 in its weekly report.
Rail carload volume, which excludes intermodal units, fell 4.3% in the week year-over-year, to 261,254 carloads.
Four of the 10 commodity groups AAR tracks increased over last year, such as farm products excluding grain (5.8%) and grain (4%). Commodity decreases were led by coal, which dropped 8.4%.
For the first six weeks of the year, intermodal volume has risen 1.1% from the same period last year to 1,429,399 units.
Year-to-date intermodal volume for all of North America increased 0.4% to 1,776,566 trailers or containers.
