To implement the "Going Out" strategy mentioned in China's Twelfth Five Year Plan, the China National Textile and Apparel Council organized a conference, on Friday, in Beijing.
The officials from the relevant government departments, financial institutions and professional associations in the textile and apparel industry explained the policies related to the "Going Out" strategy. The representatives from enterprises in the industry also shared their experience about how they achieve their longstanding goal to go global.
Through the past three decades, China has become the largest producer and exporter in the textile and apparel industry, said Jiang Hui, chairman of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textile and Apparel.
However, problems such as excess capacity, rising costs, inappropriate industrial structure, environmental restrictions, limited resources, weak demand in the domestic market and the appreciation of the yuan, are all becoming bottlenecks that impede the development of the industry, Jiang added.
Under such circumstances, going global is the ideal solution to deal with the current excess capacity, reduce the comprehensive costs through allocation of global resources and enhance the international recognition of their brands, said Jiang Hui.
Chen Jian, former vice minister of Commerce, after analyzing the current domestic and international situation, said that the government will support enterprises that want to upgrade their technology, improve management and deal with the risks linked to overseas investments.
Wang Tiankai, the chairman of China National Textile and Apparel Council, said that associations in the industry will strive to provide professional services to meet the needs of the enterprises, including the collection of information about overseas markets, holding trainings, providing consulting services, and organizing various exhibitions and conferences to boost communication and exchange.
Over ten representatives from big domestic textile and apparel enterprises shared and exchanged their experience in tapping the overseas markets, saying that special attention should be paid to local laws and regulations, teaching professionals, who not only excel in foreign languages, but also in overseas marketing and management skills.
Establishing relationships with local governments and partners, using preferential polices, innovation in design, logistics management and building up the enterprises' images and brands should also be the focus.
China's textile and apparel industry has entered a new era, in which enterprises need to seek international cooperation and find out their new competitive advantages.
China will guide domestic enterprises to develop overseas investment and cooperation, according to the Twelfth Five Year Plan. The country plans to deepen the development of international energy and resources. In order to create internationalized marketing and sales channels and famous brands, support will be given to leading enterprises in the manufacturing industry.
