Outotec Is to Build Switzerland's Largest Sewage Sludge Thermal Treatment Plant

Outotec is to build Switzerland’s largest and most advanced sewage sludge thermal treatment plant. The Finnish company has signed a contract worth nearly € 50 million with the City of Zurich (represented by Entsorgung und Recycling Zurich), for the design and turnkey delivery of the sewage sludge thermal treatment plant in Werdholzli. The new sludge thermal treatment plant in Werdholzli will treat the 100 000 tonnes of sewage sludge produced in the Zürich region annually, and generate 875kW of electrical power and 4450kW of heat. The Outotec solution is based on advanced fluidised bed technology. Outotec CEO Pertti Korhonen says energy production from biomass, sludge and waste in general is an interesting growth area. “This order supports our strategic target to expand to adjacent industries, such as energy and industrial water treatment, with high horizontal technological synergies, ” said Korhonen. The plant will be delivered on a turnkey basis. It is scheduled to be commissioned in 2015. Source: filtsep
