Port Hedland Is Planning to Start a Shutdown

Port Hedland, one of the key iron ore export ports in the resource rich Pilbara region in Western Australia, is planning to start a shutdown on Saturday, December 28, amid a cyclone threat, according to media reports.

A tropical low, located to the north of Broome in Western Australia, is expected to develop into a tropical cyclone on Saturday as it moves southwest parallel to the coast, Australia's Bureau of Meteorology said.

Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Atlas Iron and Fortescue Metals Group.
