An Audi RS6 has set a new world record to become the fastest car on ice, reaching speeds of nearly 340km/h.
Completed on a 12km ice track in the Gulf of Bothnia between Finland and Sweden, driver Janne Laitinen pushed the second-generation Audi RS6 to a new world record speed of 335.713km/h.
To claim the official Guinness record, two passes of the track were completed with the time over a distance of one kilometre measured in both directions, then averaged. The vehicle was allowed a flying start and the team had one hour to achieve the record. The ice must be natural, not roughened or treated with chemicals, and the tyres must be commercially available and approved for road use in the country where the record is made.

It’s no surprise that Laitinen looks fairly relaxed behind the wheel of the 426kW/650Nm 5.0-litre twin-turbo V10-powered all-paw Audi super sedan, with the Finn holding the previous record, set in the same car in March 2011, of 331.61km/h.
