In the first four months of this year, world pig iron production amounted to 393.83 million mt, rising by 1.65 percent compared to the same period of 2013, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in April this year global pig iron production amounted to 98.58 million metric tons, decreasing by 2.94 percent compared to March and up 0.7 percent on year-on-year basis.
In April, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 76.16 million mt, up 0.4 percent, with 60.18 million mt produced by China, down 0.78 percent, 6.61 million mt produced by Japan, down 2.85 percent, and 4.41 million mt produced by India, up 9.87 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month EU countries produced 8.01 million mt of pig iron, while the CIS produced 6.87 million mt, with respective increases of 3.61 percent and 3.57 percent year on year.
