Managed Health Care Associates (MHA) and CoverMyMeds have joined hands to provide a co-branded solution to MHA's pharmacy members for facilitating a more efficient process for completing and submitting drug prior authorizations (PA).
Health plans and payers use PAs as part of the coverage and utilization management of pharmaceutical products.
As part of the deal, MHA will launch an easy-to-use, secure, web-based tool called MHAuthorizeRx powered by CoverMyMeds, which will help pharmacies collaborate with prescribing physicians to submit PAs for a majority of health plans across the US.
The new solution creates an automated, paperless experience for the pharmacy in order to simplify the PA process as well as make sure that prescriptions are filled with the most up-to-date information.
MHA Specialty Pharmacy Solutions vice president Erik Halstrom said the alliance with CoverMyMeds will help in providing PA solutions and services for the company's members in the long-term-care and alternate site health care markets.
"With our newly formed alliance, driven by MHA's Specialty Pharmacy Solution's strategy, we will continue to collaborate on solutions that increase the efficiencies of our members in a complex reimbursement and patient management landscape," Halstrom said.
CoverMyMeds vice president National Health Plan Accounts Ron Fine said, "This co-branded solution will leverage the existing CoverMyMeds offering and will provide a significantly more efficient process while also providing electronic connectivity with prescribers when a PA is needed for coverage."
