Taiwan-based touch panel maker Wintek will launch 10W omni-directional LED light bulb in the Taiwan market in August. The firm has also secured distribution channels in China. Wintek's 2012 LED light bulb shipments are expected to reach one million units.

Recently, various brands have been slashing prices of LED light bulbs to increase brand recognition and customer loyalty. Firms such Everlight and Delta have been cooperating with convenience stores to increase distribution. Wintek, a late bloomer, plans to introduce the 10W LED light bulb with a brightness angle greater than 300 degrees. Its cold white LED light bulb has a brightness of 900 lumens while the warm yellow has a brightness of 750 lumens.

Wintek has reportedly begin selling the products through its company website with online-only prices of NT$299/unit (US$9.99/unit), relatively low compared to 9W LED light bulbs on the market which range from NT$349-499/unit. This has been attracting complaints from distributors hence the firm plans to price the light bulbs at NT$399/unit with the average price of additional units NT$299/unit.

The firm noted that the Taiwan market is relatively small, hence it has been eyeing China's domestic LED lighting market.

Wintek has been discussing cooperation with large-size distributors such as Media Markt and Suning and expects to sign agreements in mid-August. Wintek's products are expected to be on the market in the third quarter. The firm has been aiming projects at shopping malls which will increase shipments for the third quarter.
