The special edition Toyota Camry Atara R is now on sale in Australia, introducing high-grade features and added value to the locally made mid-sized sedan.
Toyota claims the Camry Atara R gains more than $3000 of performance, safety, styling and comfort enhancements compared with the entry-level Camry Altise on which it’s based. Priced at $31,820, the Atara R costs $1330 more than the Altise, effectively translating to increased value upwards of $1670.
The Toyota Camry Atara R adds a front sports bumper and grille, foglights, side skirts, and dual exhaust diffuser, the latter boosting the 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine’s output to 133kW/235Nm (up 2kW/4Nm).
Special edition badging and larger 17-inch alloy wheels (up from the standard 16s) complete the exterior enhancements.
The Atara R’s cabin gains a premium three-spoke steering wheel with audio controls, a 6.1-inch central display screen and a reversing camera with fixed guidelines.
The Camry Atara R is available in seven paint colours: Diamond White, Eclipse Black, Graphite, Magnetic Bronze, Reflex Blue, Silver Pearl and Wildfire.
Toyota Australia says it plans to build approximately 2500 limited edition Atara R models at its Altona plant in Victoria.
The Toyota Camry is the top-selling mid-sized car in Australia, claiming a 35.1 per cent share of the sub-$60,000 segment. Camry sales have declined four per cent so far this year, totalling 12,196 to the end of July.
