Taiwan August unemployment rate slightly up sequentially Adam Hwang,DIGITIMES,Taipei[Monday 24 September 2012]Taiwan had 502,000 jobless citizens in August 2012,equivalent to an unemployment rate of 4.4%rising 0.09pp on month but falling 0.05pp on year,according to statistics released by the Directorate-General of Budget,Accounting and Statistics(DGBAS)on September 24.
Taiwan's population aged 15 and over stood at 19.456 million in August,consisting of 11.403 million for labor force and 8.053 million for non-labor force with a labor participation rate of 58.61%,DGBAS indicated.
In August,Taiwan's unemployment rate was lower than 8.1%in the US and UK,7.3%in Canada,6.8%in Germany but higher than 4.3%in Japan,3.2%in Hong Kong,3.1%in South Korea and 2%in Singapore,DGBAS pointed out.
