Global plastics manufacturer Promens has signed an agreement with the government of Taicang City, Jiangsu Province to open a plastics production facility in Taicang near Shanghai in China.
Promens Asia managing director Bjarki Gardarsson said the company is experiencing significant interest from a number of global companies to employ its services in Asia as well.
"We are excited to be facing tremendous opportunities in a range of industries such as automotive, medical, personal care, chemical packaging as well as food packaging and processing," Gardarsson said.
Promens claims that the new production facility will enable the company to improve its service to customers in China and the rest of Asia, meet demand from its global customers and reduce its carbon footprint as well, through improved logistics.
The Taicang facility, which will open in several phases, is expected to cut down the need for long-distance transport of Promens products to Asia and decrease delivery times.
In the first phase of the project, rotational molding plastics will be produced for the food and material handling industries and the next phases will add other production technologies employed by Promens in Europe.
Preparations for the facility are already under way and the facility is expected to commence operation before the end of 2013.
