The Germany Government's Solar Feed-in Tariff(FIT)Reductions

Germany FIT uncertainty ignites hope for Europe solar market in 3Q12 Nuying Huang,Taipei;Jackie Chang,DIGITIMES[Tuesday 15 May 2012]The Germany government's solar feed-in tariff(FIT)reductions, which took effect on April 1,may have to be revised because Germany Bundesrat(Federal Council)last week did not consent to the cuts.

The Federal Council invoked the mediation committee of Bundestag(Federal Parliament)and Bundesrat to find an agreement. This turned the original pessimistic expectation of weak solar demand in Europe in the third quarter of 2012 to optimistic, according to industry sources in Taiwan.

The sudden policy turn in Germany is likely to affect the solar policy in Italy. The latter originally planned to adjust solar incentives at end of June.

Industry sources added that the political conflicts in the German government shows the importance of renewable energy policies.
