Aleris, a US-based provider of aluminum rolled and extruded products, has signed a four-year contract with Daimler to offer molten aluminum for the production of cylinder heads for all Daimler automobile models.
Aleris said that it had recently installed a fifth furnace at its Deizisau, Germany plant to increase capacity by 20% in order to support increased demand from the German automaker.
Aleris chairman and chief executive officer Steven Demetriou said, "We are proud to provide a high-quality upstream product for Daimler's premium automobile brands."
The plant, which was built in 2006 to meet the specific aluminum alloy requirements demanded by Daimler, will use the new furnace to increase its capacity by as much as 20%.
The facility is located near to Daimler's production facility in Mettingen, Germany and facilitates transport of the molten metal for just-in-time delivery.
Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, Aleris currently has 41 different manufacturing and recycling facilities spread around the US, Europe, and also Asia to meet the alloy demand of various industries.
