Yokohama Has Developed a New Tread Design for Its RY Range of Tyres for Trucks and Buses

Yokohama has developed a new tread design for its RY range of ctyres for trucks and buses to provide maximum operating safety and increased lifespan for higher investment returns to fleet operators and contractors.

Focusing on steer tyres and drive tyres, Yokohama RY truck and bus tyres have been developed for optimum returns on vehicles used on regional and highway long-haul duties as well as congested city conditions.

As an example of steer tyre design and capability in the range, premium steer tyre RY023 has a wide five-rib design to deliver long mileage while resisting shoulder wear – one of the major problem areas for long distance drivers seeking durability and high performance.

Its five-rib, all-position capabilities are supported by a tough band of additional rubber that protects the sidewall from scrubbing damage caused by curbing and other regional haul and in-city application wear and tear scenarios

The five-rib design delivers long mileage and shoulder wear resistance, particularly on steer axle use and is claimed to provide excellent handling and stability through the large contact area. In addition, deep sub-grooves on ribs increase wet traction.

A stress wear control groove is engineered to reduce irregular tread wear and increase longevity by providing consistent contact pressure in both loaded and unloaded conditions.

Contoured bead design provides a more precise fitment to the rim while extra wide belts enhance protection against punctures and help maintain tread shape for even wear.

RY Series wide-base trailer tyres are also engineered by Yokohama for enhanced even wear and wet traction.

With a low profile, wide-base all position for highway applications, trailer tyres in the RY range have several advantages over dual tyre assemblies: lower initial cost, greater load potential, better fuel economy and easier maintenance.

A rib block tread pattern provides long wear and high grip for excellent traction when required. Solid outer shoulders are strong, solid and durable for even tread wear when used in all drive axle configurations.

Tapered centre grooving provides stone ejection and reduces tread-stone damage ensuring enhanced casing life and retread-ability.

V-shaped, circumferential tread grooves are extra wide, self-cleaning grooves for improved water dispersion, lateral stability and long, even wear.

Also available is a cut and chip resistant tread compound for use in applications where some light off road conditions may be encountered along with the day to day haul of regular highway usage.
