GM Is Planning to Shift Its Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Plant From New York to Michigan

US based automotive manufacturer General Motors is planning to close its Honeoye Falls hydrogen fuel-cell research facility and relocate it to Michigan.

The move will see GM shift the Honeoye Falls operations, including research and product engineering, and consolidates with its global power train engineering headquarters in Pontiac, Michigan.

In addition, the company is planning to move 220 employs working at Honeoye Falls facility to its Michigan headquarters.

The Detroit-based automaker said the relocation will be complete by the end of the first quarter of 2013.

GM spokeswoman Kimberly Carpenter quoted by Rochester Business Journal saying the move has some significant business advantages for the company.

"One of the most pertinent reasons is that we'll really be able to capitalize on the synergies of having that technical expertise in one location," Carpenter said.
