Porsche Is Willing to Double Workforce Ahead of Macan Production

Porsche will hire more than 1000 new workers for its plant in Leipzig as it gears-up for production of the new Porsche Macan compact SUV.

The German automaker already has 1150 employees at the Leipzig factory meaning the company expects to nearly double its workforce over the next few months.

Dr Oliver Blume, member of the executive board of production and logistics of Porsche AG, is looking for people with a certain amount of passion and commitment, saying, “We have a new addition to our family – now we’re looking for qualified and highly motivated people in production for the realisation of our ambitious goals.”

“We want employees with petrol in their blood.”

Porsche is also investing around $650 million to upgrade the factory with its own paint shop and body assembly hall, making it the largest construction project in the brand’s history.

Chairman of the executive board of Porsche Leipzig, Siegfried Bulow,said, “The first test body was made a few days ago. In the summer we will commission the new paint shop, so the first customer car will roll off the assembly line at the end of the year. The schedule is a challenge, and the plant extension a truly mammoth task. Bit we are going all out for it.”

Porsche expects the all-new Macan to lift total sales from around 140,000 to over 200,000 units per annum.

Porsche Australia has already confirmed to CarAdvice that the Macan will be added to its current line-up in 2014.
