Samsung’s latest smartphone – the Samsung Galaxy S III – has taken over from the iPhone 4S as the UK’s most popular mobile, according to a new study.
The mobile tracker from uSwitch.com showed the phone topping its league table of sales and searches for May, despite only being released for sale two days ago.
Apple’s flagship handset has now been pushed to second place after just one month leading the pack, sandwiched between the new Galaxy S III handset and Samsung’s previous iteration – the Samsung Galaxy S II – which led the iPhone 4S for 11 months consecutively.
“All eyes have been on the Samsung Galaxy S III after its high-profile launch on 3 May, and as far as early adopters are concerned, the handset is living up to expectations,” said Ernest Doku, technology expert at uSwitch.
“It may even become a victim of its own success, with Samsung facing delays on shipping the Pebble Blue version, leaving many customers waiting on their pre-orders. The Samsung S III looks set to give the iPhone a serious run for its money.”

Samsung was the most dominant of the manufacturers, taking four places for its two Galaxy S mobiles, along with appearances from the Galaxy Ace and Galaxy Note devices.
However, all of the handsets from HTC’s latest range – the HTC One X, One S and One V – featured in the top ten as well, with the lower-end One V making its debut.
Sony was the worst performer, with its first own-brand handset – the Xperia S – dropping three places to prop up the league at number 10.
But, the company seems to have taken the right bet with operating system, as eight of the 10 spots are taken by phones running Google Android. The other two are both Apple’s iOS, with no sign of RIM or Windows Phone.
