Metrolinx’s unit GO Transit has selected INIT’s ITS fleet management system for its 380 GO Busses, 50 GO Rail cars and 70 non-revenue vehicles.
Under the contract, INIT will provide the systems including an intermodal CAD/AVL system, on-board mobile data terminals, automatic passenger counting technology and next stop announcements.
The contract also calls for the provision of in-vehicle variable message signs, real-time vehicle diagnostics and interfaces to existing destination signs, bike rack sensors, and wheelchair lift sensors.
INIT fleet management solution will allow Metrolinx to track revenue and non-revenue vehicles to enhance enterprise productivity of existing operations and offer enhanced services to GO users.
The new contract also includes the provision of real-time bus information to Metrolinx's online Customer Information Service (CIS) and their Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system.
IVR system will collect bus and rail real-time locations and forecast arrival times for the distribution of service alerts to passengers and other regional transit agencies.
INIT will also install AVL tracking equipment in the Go's supervisory vehicles and provide supervisors with laptops which will provide them remote access to the main CAD/AVL system.
Further the contract also calls for the installation of WLAN solution at all GO Bus vehicle garages, comprising third party-owned satellite garages, to facilitate wireless transmission of data between the vehicles and the central system.
INIT said that the project is scheduled to begin in 2012.
