Toyota Has Introduced Two New Safety Systems

Japanese carmaker Toyota has introduced two new safety systems, including Intelligent Clearance Sonar and Drive-start Control to reduce parking collisions.

The Intelligent Clearance Sonar is designed to detect obstacles hidden from the driver's view and apply the brakes automatically if the vehicle is at risk of collision.

Upon detecting an obstacle the clearance sonar system sounds an alarm, reduces engine or motor output and automatically applies the brakes.

Drive-start Control will control the engine output to mitigate collisions that may occur as a result of erroneous gear shifting or pedal misapplication while the vehicle is stationary or moving at low speed.

The control system will display a warning and reduce the engine or motor output when the system detects any abnormal or erroneous gear shifting.

Additionally, Toyota has also introduced a new Pre-collision System (PCS) with collision avoidance assist to mitigate high-speed collisions.

Using millimeter-wave radar, the new PCS will detect the risk of a rear-end collision with a preceding vehicle and will warn the driver via sound and display alerts to prompt braking.

Once the brakes are applied, PCS will enable deceleration of up to 60 km/h and double the braking force.

If the brakes are not applied, the PCS system will enable an automatic deceleration of 15 km/h to 30 km/h.
