A new automatic sorting facility will be installed at Södra Timber's Kinda sawmill as part of the mill's conversion to pine only production. Södra Timber said the investment on the trimmer will go ahead in 2012 to ensure optimised sawing of pine from Södra's eastern timber sources. Other investment previously agreed includes sawn timber stacking, an automatic edger, sorting of unseasoned boards and an expansion of boiler capacity. "These investments will give the sawmill a major facelift with a view to enhancing efficiency, " Södra Timber said. "They will also make the sawmill more competitive, allowing it to utilise raw materials more efficiently and improve quality sorting. " Until now, Kinda has produced half spruce and half pine, but only pine will be processed from the start of 2012 in order to make the most of better pine timber in the area. Its pine output will be 225, 000m³ annually. Södra Timber now has two specialised pine sawmills – Kinda and Unnefors. Source: ttjonline.com
