Quotes for a solar-grade crystalline silicon wafer have risen to US$0.98-0.99 due to strong demand and those for a high-efficiency wafer have exceeded US$1, according to Chinese-language newspaper Economic Daily News (EDN).
Prices are likely to rise further by 5% in January 2014, EDN indicated.
Taiwan-based maker Green Energy Technology has an annual production capacity of 2GWp and has no plans to expand capacity for the time being, EDN said. Fellow maker Sino-American Silicon Products will expand annual capacity from 880MWp currently to 1GWp in 2014, while Gigastorage will increases its from over 600MWp at present to 750MWp in first-quarter 2014 and further to 1GWp by the end of the year, EDN said.
