US-based label-print firm Astro-Med's QuickLabel Systems has set up an in-house range of Pronto! barcode label printers and a custom GUI for label-printing to the packaging line staff at the firm's West Warwick plant.
The system includes 12 Pronto barcode printers and a front-end GUI that integrates with the firm's ERP system, from where data is pulled, without any limits on the types of labels generated.
The Pronto printers are connected to the corporate network using its built-in Ethernet adapter and attached to the IBM Power Systems enterprise server over the standard TCP/IP networking protocol.
According to the firm, the new product labeling system makes the packaging process faster and efficient by minimizing human error and cutting staff downtime.
The in-house system has been developed from both hardware and software perspectives, which hopefully results in ease of integration and long-term durability.
