Taiwan-based LED chipmaker Epistar has reported third-quarter 2012 revenues of NT$5.004 billion (US$171 million), representing a slight growth of 2% on quarter. Gross margin in the third quarter fell to 20.37% from 23.97% in the second quarter, according to the firm. Net profits were NT$129 million, with earnings for share (EPS) reaching NT$0.15.
Accumulated EPS for the first three quarters of 2012 came to negative NT$0.01, meaning Epistar is close to returning to profitability.
Epistar noted that sales of AlGaInP and blue LED products fell in the third quarter causing the gross margin to fall, despite the fact that production of blue LEDs continued to be running in full capacity.
According to the firm, accumulated consolidated revenues for the first three quarters of 2012 were NT$15.484 billion with consolidated gross margin at 9.36%. Accumulated net loss for the first three quarters was NT$740 million.
